Cue-sheet identifiers: what each code identifies

AVR+ distinguishes the audiovisual production, the musical work, the recording and the people or companies with an interest in them. Their identifiers are not interchangeable.

ISWC identifies the musical work

An ISWC identifies the composition: the underlying music and lyrics. It is not an identifier for a particular recording or performance.

ISRC identifies a recording

An ISRC identifies a particular sound recording. Different recordings of the same song can have different ISRCs while referring to the same underlying work.

IPI / CAE identifies an interested party

An IPI or CAE number identifies a writer, publisher or other interested party. Pair it with the correct role and share information in the cue-sheet data.

EIDR, ISAN and IMDb identify the audiovisual work

These identify the production, episode or audiovisual asset rather than the music used inside it. Use only identifiers that apply to the production you are reporting.
